Citizen's Academy Welcomes Resident Involvement in Branson Government

Over the past few months, Brokate Janitorial's own Office Manager, Jeremy Brokate, took part in Branson's Citizens Academy. The class is an 8-week course designed to showcase the various departments of the city and learn how each one operates to keep the city functioning. The course allows citizens to ask and learn how each department operates and integrates plenty of hands-on experiences to make the course not only educational, but fun as well. Through this course, Jeremy was able to tour the Branson Police Station, Water Treatment Plants and Water Tower, Fire Department, Recycling Center and Rec-Plex/Parks Department, Finance Department, Engineering and Planning and Zoning Departments and the City Hall, Courts and Clerk Department. Each department welcomed questions and comments from the class participants showing just how open and transparent Branson's City Government really is.

Jeremy Brokate had this to say of his experience, "I thoroughly enjoyed every week of the Citizen's Academy and learned more than I could have imagined about how our city operates. I have always loved Branson, but now have a new level of respect for those who keep it functioning on a daily basis. I hear so much negative information in the news about other government entities, it's nice to know how many great people we have at our local level. I hope this is just my first step in becoming a more actively engaged Branson citizen, as I learn more ways I can contribute to the continued success of our city."

Relay For Life- Branson Unites for Worthy Cause

June 4th was truly a night to remember in Branson, MO. The Branson Cedar Ridge Elementary school was packed full of cars, with hundreds of people packed onto the track to give their time, money and energy to raise money for cancer research. Relay for Life is one of Branson's biggest fundraising events of the year and this year certainly didn't disappoint.

It was Brokate Janitorial's first year to lead it's own team to raise money and participate in the event and certainly won't be it's last. "It was a really cool experience to see just how many people in our community came out excited and stayed all through the night for such a worthy cause." said Senior Account Manager Jason Brokate.

"I've gone the last few years to support other teams, and the experience was much more exciting this time around having a team of our own to go through everything with. We are all excited to double our efforts next year, and have already begun thinking of fundraising ideas. This time was a learning experience for us all and next year we will be much more prepared and enthusiastic." said Team Leader Margie Brokate.

Besides raising money to help find a cure for cancer, the event also pays tribute to those who have lost their lives from the terrible disease during it's touching Luminaria Ceremony.

It's officially Spring, and every good cleaning company knows what that means! No, not Spring Cleaning, but baseball season. You see while many individuals and companies see Spring as a chance to focus on cleaning things up a bit, Brokate Janitorial works around-the-clock, all year long to prevent that need for "Spring Cleaning."

Instead, we are able to continue to "Play Ball" in our facilities for both our day and night cleans. Baseball season, however, is something we can definitely get excited about. While I won't speak on behalf of everybody at Brokate Janitorial, I can say that many look forward to rooting for both the Springfield and St. Louis Cardinals and Albert Pujols for another season. Last year, we marveled along with all of baseball as Pujols finished his season batting .327 and hitting 47 home runs, proving yet again that he is one of the most consistent hitters in baseball. That equates to 186 hits out of 568 at-bats. That means that the best player in baseball failed to get a hit in his other 382 at-bats. While baseball players are afforded the luxury of being able to make mistakes day-in and day-out, many of us are not so lucky.

Each profession has a different margin of error. Some mistakes are far more costly than others, while some professions allow for a certain level of mistakes due to the complexity of the job. In the commercial cleaning industry, companies expect near perfection from the companies they hire to come to bat for them each night. Medical facilities need to be sterile for the next day's patients and offices need to be cleaned, dusted and ready for another day of taking care of business. Sales offices need clean areas for both themselves to mentally prepare for the next pitch, as well as any clients they may encounter face-to-face so that the focus can be on their product or service and not the cobwebs.

For many accounts, their nightly facility cleaners are either considered heroes or villains. Another year has come and gone. For most people 2009 was a tough year that won't be missed. With unemployment rates very high across the nation, the economy in Southwest Missouri was feeling some of that impact too. Tourism was down, but not gone. A few companies went under, while many others made tough decisions on how to cut expenses and who to lay off. Yet many people remain hopeful and confident in our country to get back on it's feet and back into prosperity.

For Brokate Janitorial, 2009 was a year of milestones. This year Brokate Janitorial gained more business, hired more employee's and went into unchartered waters with new business ventures. All year, the focus of everybody within the company was keeping focused on the task at hand and doing our absolute best at it. We all have felt so fortunate to serve so many businesses in 417 Land and provide more and more families with a means to support themselves.

With so many more people in our area looking for work, trying to keep their businesses afloat, the importance of doing business locally cannot be understated. In these difficult economic times, cost and expenses are being looked at even closer than ever by individuals and businesses. How much is being spent on groceries? Insurance? Taxes? The kid down the street that mows the lawn. Those faced with a tight budget(or tightening budgets of their own to prepare for the worst) are constantly looking for ways to cut costs and expenses.

But what is cost, anyways? Most people think in terms of cost as a function of how much is spent from your pocket or checking account to obtain certain items or services. And indeed that is true...for the most part. Their is another side to cost that most people don't naturally think about in their day-to-day lives. This side of cost is the result of not buying a certain product/service or opting for an inferior product. While eliminating frivilous and unnecessary costs is always a prudent measure for improving ones overall bottom line and operating under a more responsible budget, many people can mistakenly go too far and cut "costs" that were indeed necessary and prudent.

When this happens, people and businesses experience an even greater cost later on. Well-known for it's large number of medical and health options, Springfield opens its doors to another premier facility Mercy Health Plans. While being used for administrative purposes, this new and very impressive facility will further help service those in Southwest Missouri. This two-story building features over 42,000 square feet of office space.

Brokate Janitorial was very eager to get started on this project and turn another dust-filled construction site into a sparkling clean, ribbon-cutting-ready building. On this project, Brokate Janitorial did everything from cleaning all of the windows inside and out, dusting every surface from top-to-bottom, vacuuming carpets and cabinets, scrubbing and waxing all commercial tile floors, removing tape/gum/adhesive/misc residue, polishing elevators/drinking fountains/ faucets and other bright-work, detailed bathroom cleaning, mopping slate floors and more.

"When all the electricians, plumbers, roofers, floor-installation crews all finish-up their work, it's our job to show off just how good of a job each and every worker did in constructing and completing this building." comments Cheyne Brokate, Operations Manager at Brokate Janitorial. While the economy tries to stay afloat battling turbulent waves of bad economic news and reports, Branson continues full-steam ahead. The city continues its course of economic stability and growth with steady leadership in direction from many of its businesses that have stood the test of time.

One of those businesses leading the way is the Showboat Branson Belle. The Showboat has been a staple of Branson for many years now, providing high quality food and entertainment for all its guests. Two new wonderful dining options have come to Branson to offer locals and tourists a-like some new variety of menu selections right on the Strip. Both names are well known both in our area and afar, but for very different reasons! Who are these caped-crusaders that have come to our rescue with new spices and flavoring to fill our empty bellies? Well the first one is Penny Gilley's Louisiana Fixin's. The Gilley name is no stranger to Branson, but Penny comes to town from down south and brings with her a delicious array of Louisiana flavor. If your a Po' Boy or Girl looking to eat on a budget, you enjoy a delicious Po' Boy sandwich with Shrimp, Oyster or Chicken for $6.49.

The second name that has expanded into Branson is Jimmy John's. From one family act to another, Brokate Janitorial tips it's cap to all the Haygoods on their latest milestone they have achieved. Last night, the Haygoods kicked off their debut show at their Brand-New Americana Theater. With fellow acts Tony Roi: The Elvis Experience, Red, Hot& Blue and Cassandre: Voice of an Angel, the Americana is sure to provide round the clock entertainment.

The show was entirely new and featured many spectacular moments that are sure to have people talking about after the show, and to their friends and family back home. While we won't give away any of the details of the show, we will say it featured some of the best elements of Country, Rock, Irish Celtic, Classic and Love songs both old and new.

Brokate Janitorial was pleased to relax and enjoy such a high quality show after several days of hard work helping to get the renovations clean and ready for opening night. Who has enough excitement and interest to draw out some of Hollywood's biggest stars to Branson, MO? On Saturday, January 24th, the likes of Mike Myers, Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Will Ferrell, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne and many more turned out for this one day event! The stars were all there gathered in silence as they watched the main attraction dazzle them with their talent.

So who was this amazing performer that brought all of these talented actors from Hollywood together? Brokate Janitorial of course. OK, perhaps the famous Hollywood elite were only made of wax, but to anybody who has walked through the rooms and halls of The Hollywood Wax Museum, they looked as real as could be.

Until recently, Brokate Janitorial gained new business solely through word-of-mouth and basic phone book listings. That's right. It is time to start thinking about Spring. If your office or theater has been closed up all winter to keep out the cold, call Brokate Janitorial to let in some sunlight, freshen up the air, and give your office that CLEAN feeling.

Spring is also more than just a time of year to do a detail clean on your office. It is also a time of year to clean your mind. Start fresh. Here is an article by Terri Levine with tips on how to clean the rest of your office environment.

By now, you are counting down the days of Spring and looking forward to all that entails. What is also a good idea for this time of year is preparing your spring cleaning plan. Have a brain storm with everyone in your offices and call for ideas.

Here are some spring clean tips and ideas to get you started:

· Filing and paperwork. Are your filing cabinets in need of archiving? Make room for more files and make paperwork easier to handle by "culling" your old files. If you have those that you no longer need to keep, that are outside the statutory limit, throw them away if you think you will no longer be needing them. Archive files you have not used in a long time.

· Computer system. As with paperwork, computers hold many files that are not necessary to keep on the computer, but you may wish or need to keep the information. Back up this type of information to disc and free up the space on your computer system. Keep a copy of your backup and archive discs offsite – in case of fire – you want to be able to access that information again.

· Review your practices and procedures. Are there any new or simpler ways of doing tasks? Maybe your staff have ideas and now is a good time to consider them.

· Be ruthless and throw out that which is nothing more than clutter. This may be broken, chipped mugs, old magazines and brochures, and anything else you may be hoarding but never use and will likely never use.

· Need a change? Maybe rearrange the furniture, if practical. This will give you a fresh start into Spring. Maybe there is a more efficient way to set up your room and the office in general?

· Would a fresh coat of paint help? Have a look around. If you ever thought of brightening up your surgery or office, now is a good time to do it.

· Do a swap of anything ornamental. Change last years vases or paintings and photos with something more up to date, fresh and different.

· Go through all stationery cupboards and office desks and throw out everything that doesn't work. Many drawers hold pens and staplers that have not worked for years!

· Update your magazines, brochures, pamphlets and anything else you have available for waiting patients. If you provide a "toy" area for children, make sure all the toys have been cleaned and disinfected. Throw away anything tacky or broken and replace with safer, newer toys.

· Mark the first of spring with a vase of fresh flowers – if possible, try to choose low or non-allergic varieties – think about your hayfever and sinus suffering patients!

· Spring clean your mind! If your staff always work in perfect harmony, you are very fortunate, however, in some offices, disagreements and disharmony between staff members is not uncommon. So, for you and your staff – suggest they all write down on a slip of paper any grudges they are harboring against anyone else in the office, any gripe about anything at all that affects their mood and productivity during their work day. When complete, these little slips are rolled into small balls – so nobody can read them. Collect them in a bowl and take them somewhere outside or in to the kitchen sink area and burn them! Tell your staff they are spring cleaning their minds… ridding themselves of any old grudges, jealousies, angers etc. Everyone starts the first of spring with fresh slates!

3. Use plenty of walk off mats. It is recommended that you have mats in place for the first 10 steps inside a main entrance, and 5 steps in any secondary entrance.
4. Mats should be rubber on bottom and cloth on top.
5. Changes mats frequently. A wet mat is a useless mat.
6. Wet floor signs!
7. Always sweep and mop hard surfaces every night, and vacuum all traffic lanes daily.
